M27 in Vulpecula

Nerpio/Spain

M27 is a planetary nebula, about 1360 light years away. It is the final stage in the development of a star about the size of our sun, after the fusion process has stopped and the outer gas layers dissipate into space. Eventually only the hot inner core survives as a white dwarf.
