Red-shouldered Hawk with coot

Shoreline at Mountain View, California

This immature Red-shouldered Hawk caught and ate this coot very close to the trail. It didn't mind people walking by. I took over 300 photos of this scene. I'll post more photos later.

wow, really nice catch. I once saw a red-tailed catch and eat a coot but never thought that a red-shouldered was strong enough to do the same.

Great image, Garrett. Must be soon after the coot was grabbed_coot feathers may still be floating to the ground.
