NGC 253, aka The Sculptor Galaxy, Silver Coin or Silver Dollar Galaxy is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Sculptor about 12 million light years away. It is called a starburst galaxy because it is currently undergoing a period of intense star formation. It is also one of the brightest galaxies in the sky and is easily visible when viewed through a small telescope.
