Wiring Schematic

I now need more power at the OTA because there are 2 serial devices and 2 USB devices up there (one being a power hungry SBIG STXL). I've re-done practically all the wiring with heavy duty cable to minimise voltage drop - especially to the camera.

Peak observed current draw at the main PSU (Powertech MP3090) is about 14 amps (100% camera cooling (STXL) while slewing). Idling current draw (all systems active with 50% cooling on the camera while imaging) is 8.5 amps. This also includes the telescope's current draw for the fans and heaters.

Note the 3.6m of heavy duty (8 awg) cabling between the Wall and the Pier and then 12 awg that goes through the mount to the Rigrunner under the OTA. I've also put 12 awg to the camera.

The DIY UPS (at the top) is enough to power everything for about an hour if there is a power failure (reasonably common). At least there will be time to finish a sub or two and power down gracefully. I probably need to upgrade to a 100AHr battery to provide a better margin.

This is what it looked like before I upgraded the telescope from my TOA-150 to the OS RC360: http://www.pbase.com/gailmarc/image/132859491
