12 February
polish

No I haven't been cleaning my shoes tonight - though I probably should. But shoe polish is one of those things that reminds me of my childhood. The smell of it instantly takes me back to sunday evenings at home with Dad watching the TV with a line of shoes in front of him to be polished. I've never been as disciplined at polishing my shoes - in fact I tend to buy shoes that won't need polishing.

Nice detail Gail, it is one of those unmistakable smells!

Did we have the same father? Ours had to be polished to wear to church. We had that little wooden box with the shoe pring on top, the wax, the brushes, the polishing cloth. I can smell it now!

Thanks for the memory...

You're taking me back to my childhood as well...
My Dad used to polish his shoes w/ this exact polish.
Great shot!

Reminds me more of cotton balls, water, a lighter, and buffing cloth trying to get combat boots ready for inspection.

I can remember the smell, it is very characteristic.

A trip down memory lane...exactly the same here Gail. I have always loved shining clean shoes which stems from the importance of sending us off looking neat & tidy when we were young...my MIL had a saying..." You may not be a banker, but that doesn't mean you can't dress like one "
My husband has the kit that Linda speaks of.

ha ha - I NEVER polish my shoes but I know exactly what you mean! I must be honest, I don't even know if we've got any shoe polish in the house!!!! My Dad used to have a kit - put on polish with a brush, wipe of excess, rub in with a soft cloth then buff up with a different brush. In fact, I'm sure he still does!
