Reminder

Whenever we go on holiday I like to bring something back something that will act as a reminder of where we've been. This oil and vinegar pourer was bought in Verona. I still have a very vivid picture of seeing it in the window of an old fashioned shop and going in to buy it. It felt like a lifetime later that we left the shop - pourer in hand, because the shop assistant had insisted on demonstrating it to us - yes unbelievable to us in the UK. We just aren't used to good service and instead it seems like to norm to me that shop assistants (not always but usually) haven't got a clue about what they are selling.

Neat "thing". Trying to work out what colour the liquid inside the inner bulb might be but cantquite manage it.

p.s. just saw don's comment below, and i agree. i couldn't put my thumb on what really stood out about this photo (besides the composition and form), but don caught it. it's the color contrast between the yellow oil, vinegar, and shadowed background. the colors complement each other very well!

what an unusual bottle! i've never seen something like it, a bottle within a bottle? :) i like the composition! i'm still trying to get that phase there everything needs to be in the shot, i.e. not cropping objects. the cropping is just right here IMO.

the lighting and background is unusual. the shadow cast in the background suggest you used a flat sheet of paper curled to make a surface and background, but what's unusual is the rapid transition from bright surface to background, there's not much sense of gradual change in depth between the object and background and surface. perhaps the bottle was very close to the background?

the lighting is interesting in that it seems there's a strong light coming from above, causing the surface to blow out and bouncing up into the bottom of the bottle, causing it to be brighter than the top. i'm not quite sure what to make of it, as most traditional shots would have the top of the bottle (which is clear) to be brighter than the bottom.

overall, a very nice shot!

Besides a useful tool, the subject of a nice photograph. I really like the background shading and the color contrast of the yellow and black, plus the shape of the bottle. Always the most interesting from you, Gail.
