Amur corktree, ripe fruit (Phellodendron amurense)

This is a non-native species that has self-seeded in a couple of spots in the Fletcher garden, the seeds no doubt coming from birds who ingested seeds from trees in the adjacent Arboretum. This tree is considered invasive in some areas. Superficially, and before the fruit appears, it can look at first glance like a walnut tree.
