Golden tortoise beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata)

This pretty little beetle (approx 6 mm) is relatively common, though you need to turn over many leaves of morning glory plants and of deadly nightshade (Solanum dulcamara) plants to find them. You may also find other species of tortoise beetles too. This one is usually a brilliant metallic gold in colour, but when disturbed, changes to red, as here.
