Black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes)

A magnificent shot of this beautiful swallowtail by Jeewa, taken this morning at the garden. Caterpillars of this species were found about 10 days ago on wild parsnip, one of the plants favoured by this species for egg laying.

I am glad to see there are Black Swallowtails at the FWG. I grow Dill and Bronze Fennel and have always had Black Swallowtail caterpillars growing on them til this year. Not a one this year. I realy miss them.
