With my wife at Belgique in Kent, Connecticut 2/13/04

Today we had an elegant lunch in a restored Victorian house not far from my daughter and son-in-law's house. The gracious hospitality from the host/chef/owner Pierre was so warm, we felt like we were dining in someone's home. We had a terrine of foie gras, endive with ham under melted gruyere cheese (a classic Belgian dish), a very good cheese platter, and an assortment of delicious tea sandwiches and miniature pastries. It was indeed a delightful dining experience.

I am rather unusual for an older Chinese person in that I actually enjoy cheese. I even like the stinky ones; the smell doesn't bother me. I also like all kinds of coffees and teas. Today at Belgique, I had Japanese Genmaicha tea, Ethiopian coffee, and New Guinea coffee. My family doesn't understand how I can possibly get a good night's sleep with all that caffeine in my system, but I never have a problem with that.

My son-in-law said that "Jane Curtin" was sitting at the next table, but I didn't know who she was. I never stayed up late enough to watch Saturday Night Live. Maybe I should have had even more caffeine.
