I have several very nice young friends, who honour me with their trust and confidence.
I’m aware of my limited knowledge, generally speaking, because being conscious of one’s own limits is the only way to have a hope to get over them, but I have a certain experience of life due to all my vicissitudes and to all the enriching people I have had the luck to meet in my long existence.
I suppose my friends feel comfortable with me, because I’m a good and sympathetic listener and I never give lessons or unrequested advice.
When one of them has a problem or simply feels like sharing an important decision,I am usually honoured by a visit and we spend a few hours in deep conversation. Even though I never tell them what they must do I do my utmost to enable them to find the best decision by themselves.
I don’t want to be a dispenser of solutions, I prefer to be a catalyst for their personal choices.
Yesterday evening I went out for dinner with one of my young friends and I can assure you I felt envied by many young ladies who noticed us at the restaurant.
We had a very enjoyable meal and we shared both lighter and deeper thoughts.
I think it was important for both of us.
But if anyone asks me what we talked about, my response will be: "It’s private."
