Front Range Burning

La Veta, CO

A reawakened forest fire burns at the top of La Veta Pass in this sixteen-frame panorama, stored here at 1/5 scale.

This fire was thought to be under control yesterday after burning a few hundred acres, but high winds and hot, dry conditions have expanded it dramatically. The vertical rise in the range is about 5,000 feet from an elevation of 7,000 feet. The plume rises to about 30,000 feet before cooling enough to drop the heavier smoke which will eventually smother Walsenburg.

Very good image, shame it was because of a fire though, they're always bad news.

great shot but such a scary thought of the devastation.
