Walking the red carpet

"Damn paparazzi - they're everywhere"

He had just made a 'test' charge, as they do to test what you are. They run towards you a little, you are told to just stay still and whatever you do don't run. When you don't react, they stop and go back to ignoring you.

I'm not sure 800 lb grizzlies are ever 'uneasy'. Annoyed maybe. I was using a 300mm telephoto at the extreme here so I was further away than it appears, and also in a boat. What did amaze me is that for the most part they totally ignored us and went on about their salmon fishing as if we weren't there. According to the guides there's been so little human interaction with them, and for the most part they are more than well fed on the salmon that they don't see humans as either threat or food. Still, I would not have wanted to be out there on my own and running though.

Really nice shot. I wonder if being "surrounded" makes them uneasy, versus everyone lined up on one side?

Nice shot, Dave. Those Notner dogs are well-trained for the benefit of tourists!
