The buildings in Chemainus, BC, have undergone major restoration to reflect the era of their original construction. Beginning in 1982 murals depicting the area's historical roots were added to some of the buildings exteriors. Each year a new mural is added and there are now 37 that adorn a variety of buildings. NOTE: When the town of Chemainus found their economic base failing a revitalization and mural project was undertaken as an economic development solution to single employer dependency. This vision has earned Chemainus worldwide fame as a memorable tourist venue. Link to view the town's murals: http://www.chemainus.com/arts/murals/Chemainus-murals.htm
