an unexpected surprise: a little owl

Takht-e Soleymān / تخت سل

As I was walking around Takht-e Soleymān in not the most favourable of weather conditions, I thought to myself: this is soooo owl-territory. I pointed my camera at an old wall, looked through the viewfinder and was stared back at by this little owl. What a lovely surprise, it certainly made my day!

Well found. It is good to see them still so common in some parts of the world. In the UK they are disappearing fast due to increasingly intensive farming. There are no insects to feed on due to pesticides and herbicides. As it happens they are not native to the UK but an introduction, so not catastrophic for the species, but most people kind of like having them around!
