The Azadi Tower (Liberty Tower) was formerly known as the Shahyād Āryāmehr (King Memorial Tower), but renamed after the Iranian Revolution of 1979.
It was designed by Hossein Amanat and built in 1971 in commemoration of the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire.
