The Common basilisk, Basiliscus basiliscus, (or simply the basilisk) is a lizard found in Central and South American rainforests near rivers and streams. Nickname "Jesus Christ" was earned by this lizard becasue of its ability to run on the surface of water. Lizards feet move at 25 strokes per second while generating sufficient thrust and contact surface to ensure body is above the water level.
