New Life

Hallstatt, Upper Austria

Now it is clear that all the unsaved data on the external harddisc are lost. The company who repaired the disc did not give a damn about the stored data. A fact, that leaves me quite angry, as the harddisc did not get broken due to my misusage, but rather because of a defect part - something that should not happen after only 14 months of usage (Of course they neither provided an explanation for the cause of the defect, nor did they apoligize in any form). So in my opinion, the company (LaCie) would have the obligation to do everything to save these data - or am I completely mistaken? Well, no need to complain, because the data are already gone. That means, all the RAW files of the past two months are gone. Only small files for net usage survived, as they were stored on another harddisc. The above image is one of them. If there is any lesson to learn from this incident it probably is that one should never trust the storage media and always save the data on at least two different ones.

Unbelievable story Eckhart. That's terrible after all your work and I'm really sorry for you.
This is a wonder image and I like the theme of nature eventually replacing our feeble efforts. Vote.

Eckhart, there are companys which provides data restoration from damaged hard disk, they can do the miracle! The internal disk probably is not damaged. Take info over the internet!

I can feel your pain. I suffered the very same thing in May.
I now consider the months of images I lost as my camera's 'dark ages'.
This terrible loss is a timely reminder for us all.
I am going to back up last week's data as soon as I hit the Add Comment button.

Man - v sorry to read that. I barely dare to imagine this happening to me. If it's of any use, I'll be happy to let you know my own workflow / backup process that I use (although it's never really been put to the test yet so caveat emptor :). I hope you get inspiration and hope from this disaster. That's at least what I see in your image. New beginnings my friend.
