the only adder you will see in Michigan is the puff adder (eastern hog nose) and it is harmless. Should have called someone. sad that you killed it :(

A few years ago I found an Adder by my garage near Stanton MI and I looked it up and the info said it was poisonous enough to kill a small child. I wasn't taking any chances, as my grandson was about 4 and he almost picked it up. We killed it. And we also have had 12" to 14" Massasauga rattlers in our yard. We don't have any swampy areas either. We are on a sandy hill
