5/15/08 - Infrared Landscape

Hadn't used the IR-converted D70 for a while. Did a little experimenting today just to see "what if?". This isn't a what if - just a straight IR shot. Used a circular polarizer to "optimize" the sky & water.
Notice the difference in foliage "whiteness". The pine trees (needles) are no where near as white as the small maples on the far bank or the cattails in the foreground. This difference in reflection is what amuses me when someone claims to have a "software" IR filter. The software doesn't have the proverbial snowball's chance in hell of getting IR reflections correct. My example when someone insists the software plug-in works - Go shoot some foliage growing against a green man made structure. What does the software do with the various green elements? How does it know that the green structure is a structure and therefore should register dark & not light? It can't.
