4/24/08 - Painterly Oak

Go to - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/96083013 - to see the original of this image together with a B&W conversion. After working the B&W, I decided to try the Nik Color Efex Pro 3's Polaroid Transfer Effect filter at its default options. I've used this filter before but always with everything turned off except the part that creates the frilly border. The default settings soften things and, in general, make the resulting image more painterly as you can see by comparing this with the original.
My wife gets on my case when I "mess" with images after the fact but I thought that I'd share this as something a bit different. The effect sort of fits the image - very foggy spring morning.

I definitely like the effect on this (foggy morning) image. Well...not the border so much, but the rest of it!

I also enjoy the way the oak seems to be riding a distant sea of green, while the yellow flowers in the foreground echo its shape.
