4/22/08 - B&W Conversion

A before/after of more B&W conversion experiments. No specific objective at this point, just trying different things to examine the effects individually and on the overall result. (added a light "old-style" tint) Added a 2nd B&W version since the original post - far right - to darken the bottom per Baine's comment below (used a grad-ND filter flipped upside down with graduated darkening from max at the bottom through to zero effect past the mid-point vertically in the image).
Tonality is key and capturing a full range from black to white is getting to be easier. I now can get the complete range without losing anything to blown highlights or blocked shadows - of course, assuming that the starting image was correct in these areas.
A view of the Thornton River near its beginning in the Thornton Pass in the Shenandoah National Park. I really wanted a similar scene that included the many dogwood & redbuds that were in bloom yesterday but couldn't find an accessible spot.
