This was built by Palm Wagon Works, Palm, Pennsylvania, in 1890.
A scissor jack mechanism could raise the box containing coal as high as
twelve feet. A chute on the rear allowed coal to be directly unloaded
into a coal bin instead of back breaking work carrying it in canvas bags.
A modern version of the lift is still used to load cargo in airplanes.
