BW-Dragon

This is my attempt to duplicate an image from the book "The Beauty of Fractals." This is a down-sampled version of the original, which was rendered at 6000x4800 pixels.

I had to guess as to coordinates for this plot. My version was centered at about -0.7837, 0.1456 i, and a width of about 0.00865 (numbers rounded for simplicity)

At the time "The Beauty of Fractals" was published, an image like this required a state-of-the-art IBM mainframe.

Today, my somewhat out-of-date laptop was able to create a higher resolution version in just a few minutes.

Yesterday's super-computer is today's boat anchor.

If you have installed FractalWorks 0.4.0 or later, you can recreate this plot by clicking here:

With versions of Fractalworks before 0.5.1, the colors may look different.

Duncan...great gallery. I love this one. Reminds me of Dr. Suess. I've done some k-scopes and will have to give fractals a try as well. You can see my k-scopes here www.pbase.com/coryeaster/when_worlds_collide

Got it! This has the same 3D effect as mine, only it's in B&W. I did not think it could be done with mono-chrome. Great work! g
