Bumblebee face 5683 (V70)

I found this bumblebee in our yard. It was barely moving. I think it was dying. Sad for the bee, but it gave me a chance to get some extreme closeups.

Shot with a Tamron 90 mm macro lens plus 68 mm of extension tubes, at closest focus. That combo gives a little over 2:1 magnification, if my measurements are correct.

Lit with an SB-800 flash fired through a pop-up diffuser attached to the front of the lens.

Reduced in size for uploading to the internet. See the next entry in this gallery for a 100% crop of the same image.
