Impending doom

North Ridgeville, Ohio

I highly doubt this sign, or building will see another new year. Big plans are in place to enhance and widen the main thoroughfare in our town. While I am excited for new roads and modernizing our city, we have to all agree on how to collectively pay for it. They put it to vote a few times, and it never gets the nod of approval from the general population but yet they have the plans and are moving businesses in preparation of a project they are still lacking the money for? Am I missing something?

On another thought, maybe this building will sit vacant like so many others in my town. Sad. This corner hardware store has been here since the 1930s serving needs of customers. I'm all for improvements but I'd like to know how we pay for it and all the details before we start closing down businesses.

I like the way you've been able to capture the light on the sign and the various buildings without losing anything of importance in either the highlights or shadows.
I can't put myself in the council's collective mind but moving the businesses now actually isn't a bad idea, strategically speaking. They may not have the money now but at some point this thing is going to be built. So they can either move the businesses out now and have the land free and clear ("shovel ready", as it is sometimes called down here though not always appropriately), or leave the businesses there until they're ready to build. The risk in the latter approach is that you might end up with one or two hold outs who tie the matter up in court for 5 years. If that problem is going to crop up... best now, when it won't hold up any work.
It's a pity about the businesses that are lost though. I found that two hardware stores that I used to frequent up in my old stamping grounds closed down when I went up there just recently, though that's changing demographics rather than redevelopment. It's good to document the history before it goes.

Great shot with a nice small-town feel. One with special meaning for you as well.

Very well done night capture. It seems we lose something special so often with change. Voted

I know some of the local politicians and they are good servants of the people. It's the collective bunch of them that want to tax us to the breaking point. When is too much, TOO much-

They will tax you for the improvement, they know what is best for you.

The local politicians are learning how to become federal politicians!
