This was the first entry submitted and at that point I told myself this would be the winner. The purpose of photography isn't just to capture beautiful subjects, it's to convey thoughts, to portray what the photographer wants to express. This photo has a meaning that made people stop and think. The meaning of course is about life prevailing death.
I like your photography technique to convey the thought. First is the camera angle. It gives height to the flower above the ground, and at the same time put dead leaves and even a dead forest at the background. Even though the flower is tiny, it was made larger than a tree in the background. Second is the light temperature. It's not hot like the summer, but rather softly cool, as if the winter still lingers around here. A much deserved winner.
