The Kindness of Strangers

A few weeks back a very kind person by the name of Brenda posted that she would like to help out with Zoeys expenses. While this has left me speechless (for once!) and totally blown away by the generosity of a person I have never met, Brenda, Thank You, but I must with the utmost appreciation and respect to you, decline.

I have been fortunate that I have a job that allows me to provide veterinary care for my critters. Even for Zoey, who proved to be a bit more of a challenge, I look at it as an investment rather than an expense.

Now I know not everyone is in the position to take in a stray animal even if they would want to. But there are other ways you can help. So I was thinking that maybe this holiday season if you find yourself with a few extra bucks in your pocket, thinking, Hey how could I do something nice for someone or something, maybe you would consider donating to your local humane society, animal rescue group, shelter or even your local veterinarian. The vet I go to has a stray animal fund which is funded by private donations that helps to off set the cost of caring for stray animals at their clinic until they can be adopted out. I bet if you check in your area you could find something similar and I know they would welcome the help.

So remember, its better to give than receive, and if you do decide to help out, Thank you so much and tell 'em Zoey sent you.

Lord she's so pretty!!

How kind of that person to offer some help... and such an honorable suggestion to help out in our own way where we live.

WILL DO!!!

Capital idea! And just in time for the holidays.

FWIW: in terms of deserving shelters & rescue groups, there are few as dedicated as the Best Friends Animal Society. These people are the MARINES of animal rescue/rehab, with a "no animal left behind" policy. They made national headlines this September when they busted a crooked West Coast shelter & rescued **700+** cats from certain death-by-neglect, squalor and disease. Their volunteers are still camped in that compound, continuing to rehabilitate the 300 (or so) remaining animals. The rest have been processed, vaccinated, 'chipped, spayed/neutered...and adopted!

(Zoey's story is one I would have almost expected to read about on their "Guardian Angels" page, which refers to their special-needs cases. Animals with missing limbs, birth defects, freak injuries, severe abuse/neglect survivors, etc -- whom the BF's just refuse to give up on, and who just *blossom* under all that love!)

Anyway, she's such a lovely critter! Upload a vid of her to YouTube ASAP, PLEASE, so we can see her in action!

I must agree with Raymond...this is an absolutely beautiful shot of Zoey! I just spent the time to re-read your pblog from the beginning...thank you so much for all of your efforts and hard work. It is a wonderful gift for the holidays, and a tremendously positive way to start the new year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...wishing all the best for you and the rest of your "family" Tammie!

Zoey is a champion, that's why she wears the Olympic Flame !
This is her best image yet... I love this little girl so much... such a will to live, such a story... and today, such happiness.
May 2008 be for you Zoey, full of new discoveries, adventures, friends, lots of love and of course...little mischiefs now and then.
Big snuggles to you

Thats a very good suggestion Tammie. Because my dad is a vet I know that a lot of the animals given as gifts at Christmas and Easter end up in animal shelters or taken unwanted to a vet because the people who get them decide weeks or days later that they can't keep them. Donations of time and money to shelters or rescue groups are always welcome.
Kate

P.S. My dad thinks Zoey's nose marking looks like an Olympic flame. ;)
