Legend says this temple's chedi was struck by lightning in 1436 to reveal the famous Emerald
Buddha. The king, upon seeing this Buddha, commanded a new temple (same name) to be built In Bangkok and the Emerald Buddha was subsequently moved. The Emerald Buddha illustrated in this image is a jade replica.
