Commonly found in South East Asia, both the betel nut and the betel leaf (from a different plant)mixed with a little lime are chewed for a mild stimulant effect, somewhat similar to nicotine. Regular chewing causes the teeth and lips to become red, however it is reported to reduce cavities and tapeworms.
