Here you see the entrance (from the side) of the Dar al-Hadith al-Ashrafiye (1237), a Koranic school which reflects the return to basic Sunni traditions under the Ayyubid ruler al-Ashraf Musa (the "The monuments of Syria" by Ross Burns says). The guidebook states the courtyard behind the prayer hall is abandoned, I did not get in anyhow.
