This is a mosque made on the orders of Kaptan Deriya Sinan Paşa, a commander of the sea forces. It was designed by the famous architect Sinan, finished in 1555-1556. It is described in Strolling through Istanbul as "interesting architecturally, though not particularly attractive. Its plan is essentially a copy of the ancient Üç Serefli Cami (1477) at Edirne.
