Outside the monumental portal stands this part of what was probably the ornamentation elsewhere in the church. It shows some grapevine and part of a bird. That might be a dove in which case I return to the Wikipedia (regarding Christian symbols): “... the dove (symbolic of the Holy Spirit), the sacrificial lamb (symbolic of Christ's sacrifice), the vine (symbolising the necessary connectedness of the Christian with Christ) and many others.”
