A viewer supplied further information: On the top of the second column is the pulpit from where the Gospel reading is proclaimed also the encyclicals of the Patriarch, decisions of the Holy Synold and the weekly sermons are read. It was built in 1703 at the wish of Patriarch Gabriel III from Chalcedon (1703-1707) at the expense of Ioannis, interpereter for the admiral of the Ottoman fleet, as recorded in the inscription: " Raise your hearts on high. There where the wise words are said by the deacon. For through the excellent wish of His All Holiness Gabriel it was possible to make this so beautiful and at the expense of the devout Ioannis interpreter of the Ottoman fleet."
