Hello Dick; My name is Gencer Gokeri born and raised in this very unique city we call The pearl of Agean Sea.I grew up in Alsancak.Nowadays, I make Seattle WA. my home away from Izmir.(since 1984). I am so happy to view these fine pictures you took .They got me off guarded I had some tears in my eyes.I must be homesick.(I haven't been back for three years.) Anyway, This Stadium called Ataturk Stadyumu was built in between 1968-1970 for 1970 Mediterranian Games.It was used for the opening and closing ceremonies and for track and field competitons.I still remember my father taking my older brother and not me to the opening ceremonies since I was only 7 years old. last year It had just hosted The World University Games attended by more than 5000 student athelets from around the World.It also hosts some soccer matches in the Turkish Second Devision since none of our teams are in the Turkish premier league called Super Lig. i would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your hard work. what fantastic pics of izmir i was there around the same time as you,as my wife comes from izmir i will ask her what this sports stadium is i think it could bethe local football stadium, most of the pictures you took i visited there ,great city, great pictures, can you let me know did you visit buca district?
