This is Yýlan Kale(Snake Castle)...Seems you made this pic on the highway, between Ceyhan and Adana... This castle was built by Crusaders. Many empires and countries used the castle(Crusaders, Byzantium,Seldjukians, Ottoman Empire...etc ) because of the importance of it's strategical location. But there is a bigger castle norh to this castle, that is Anavarza Castle. Anavarza Castle was built by Assurians first in 9. century BC... Has also Roman ancient city down skirts of the castle anavarza.Çukurova(Adana and enviromental towns and areas ) has 7 castle, built like chain, starts from yumurtalik(Adana seaside town) to Tufan beyli (northest point of adana)... this means an old highway from mediterenian sea or from middle east to middle anatolia and Europe...

Nice picture. As mentioned the name of fortress is related to snakes but another name of fortress is Levon Kla which was built by Levon I king of Roubinian (1199-1219).

This looks to be "Yilan Kalesi" or "Snake Castle". I believe it was named after Sheikh Meran was was supposed to be half man half snake. It is located near Incirlik Air Force Base, Adana. I was stationed there from 1990 - 1991. Whoever posted the comment below is correct, it was very difficult to climb up but it was well worth it once you made it.

Yes, I've climbed up into this castle and have the name of it somewhere around here. I will have to look for it and let you know what I come up with. This was a great castle for exploring, a little harder to get into than some, you had to climb up a rather dangerous section that was very steep, but the view was well worth it. The story goes that the Crusader castles were all built in this area so that each one could be contacted by smoke or fire from the other one and they could each in turn communicate with each other. It appeared to be true when we were there. There was another great one called Anavarsa with a Roman city below the castle which sat high on a large hill behind. It was not far from this one as the crow flies.
