My first glimpse of the Ata Kulesi. Kule is "tower", ata is forefather, ancestor or such. I may be wrong but I think it must be something like the "Father of all towers". It is 125 meters high, as high as the highest building in my city (Amsterdam), but it has the advantage of being built on a hill (Amsterdam is flat), the view is great.

Cihangir is right. Ata Kule takes its name probably from Ataturk Kulesi - Atakule, rather than being father of towers. it has a restaurant on top that rotates so you can see the whole city while dining. People used to say at first that it did not rotate but now I heard it does. Has a very nice viewing terrace as well. I would also recommend Botanik Parki, which is right beneath the kule, one of the oldest parks in the city, and still one of the prettiest if you ask me.

Ata means ancestor, but the name of this particular tower is most probably a reference to Atatürk (Ancestor of Turks), or an abbreviation of Atatürk Tower (Atatürk Kulesi > Atakule). It was built in the 80s by the way.
