Ortahisar Museum november 2014 1662.jpg

Taken from a notice in the museum: Kina night. A village marriage usually lasts about three days. The women congregate in the house of the bride for henna evening. Henna is mixed with water, heated with a candle, and attached to the bride’s hands and feet. Special gloves and socks are worn, so the henna will get its full effect. This thousand years old custom is supposed to bring luck. The other participants paint their hands. During the night the women will dance. They often dress as men, to prevent an abduction of the bride.
