On the picture: The painted decor of the side wall of the stairs leading up to the ‘Müezzin Mahfili’ /platform for the muezzin (the man who recites the call to prayer). This wooden construction stands halfway between the mihrab and the central fountain; it dates from 1549. This decor of stylised leaves, flowers and blossoms, however, belongs to the 18th century, when the Ottoman decorative arts were influenced by the European Rococo.
