The entrance you see here is to a medrese that we will visit shortly.

This ‘Ümmühan Hatun Medresesi’ is a former Byzantine monastery (10th century), which was transformed into a medrese (school) by the Seljuk in 1208. That happened on request of Ümmühan Hatun, the mother of the Seljuk sultan Allaeddin Keykubat I. Her ‘türbe’ (grave monument) was installed inside. In the 16th century the Bektaşi Order turned the school into a ‘Çilehane’. (Çilehane = House of ascesis, where Sufis would go to pray in seclusion).
The entrance is situated in the southern extern wall of the complex, and can be reached via a flight of stairs coming down from the upper courtyard.
