The Clock Tower was built at the end of the l9th century.
It has a square-plan, is made of rough and hewn stone and was placed on top of a surviving tower of the ancient (Roman) walls surrounding the city. The Roman tower provided a saving in building expenses, as well as an inspiration for the architectural style to be used.
