Pipe smoking lady. Dressed in late Ottoman urban style.
She wears baggy trousers (‘şalvar’), a white cotton skirt (‘pamuklu gömlek’), a silk headscarf adorned with a
lace border (‘oyalı yazma’), a gown (‘üçetek’, wich means: robe with three panels) and a belt with a big buckle
(‘tokalı kemer’).
The latter two are antique pieces: 19th century for the buckle, 1st half of the 20th century for the ücetek.

On the floor: a big ‘cicim’ carpet (pronounced “jijim”).
Cicim is one of four Anatolian flat-woven rug types; the other three are kilim, zili and soumak.

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
