The theatre was built in Hellenistic times and rebuilt during the Roman imperial era. It could house up to 14.000 spectators. The scaenae frons seems to be largely intact, but as I could not visit in 2012 due to restaurations I could not verify this. Neither could I see the reliefs of Dionysus (god of the theatre), one representing his birth. I hope to return sometime.
