In the ‘çarşı’ (= traditional commercial district), where specialised trades and workshops are established.
On the picture: An old ‘çeşme’ (fountain), still in use.
In addition to providing drinking water, fountains were used for decoration and to celebrate their builders, which were generally state officials or just rich people, whose name would be mentioned on the ‘kitâbe’ (= building inscription).
