My page with very many Turkish cities OR Other antique cities

Euromos was the most important city in ancient times, after Mylasa (now Milas). The name of the city was “Cyramos” or “Hyramos” in the 5th century BC. The Greek form “Euromos” meaning “Strong” is likely to be adapted as part of the policy of Hellenization by Mausolos. Although the city is ruined the remains of the Temple of Zeus in Euromos are among the half dozen best preserved monuments in Asia. It was built in Corinthian order and dates from the second century BC. It has six columns on an architrave and 9 columns on each side.

In a recess of the hill nearby the theatre is covered by an olive grove, it's only partly excavated. This gallery shows the temple from all sides, and some other remains. It has pictures from three visits, the first time I took slides, that I scanned. The others are digital.

If you have some time on your hands when visiting, you may wish to visit some graves to the left of the entrance lane, in a field.
