The Wilkes family has operated this restaurant since 1943. Usually there are long lines to get into it. Presumably President Obama did not wait in line when he and his entourage ate lunch here. Home-style southern food is served. You sit at a table with other guests. All guests at a given table are seated at the same time and leave at the same time. There are no menus. All of the available food dishes are already on the table before guests are seated. Guests pass the dishes to one another. Some of the food items we ate were: southern fried chicken, beef stew, collard greens, okra, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sweet-potato soufflé, corn bread and banana pudding - all excellent.
