In the early 1900’s what was to become the Crystal Beer Parlor in this building opened as the Gerken Family Grocery owned by a Jewish family who lived above the store. By the time of Prohibition the store had been converted into a restaurant and was one of the first restaurants to serve alcohol after the repeal of Prohibition.
