Kishiwada Castle was built in the late 1500's c.e. The same family maintained ownership of the castle for 13 generations from the mid 1600's until the Meiji Restoration (mid 1800's). The castle's main tower was struck by lightning and destroyed in the 1820's. It was reconstructed in the 1950's.
Osaka is the second largest metropolitan area in Japan with a population 2.5 million and over 19 million in its greater metropolitan area. It is a major commercial center.
