Pontocho Alley next to the Kamo River in Kyoto - one of the most atmospheric "streets" we saw in Japan

The patio seating at the rear of the restaurants on one side of Pontocho Alley (left side in the photo) overlook the Kamo River.
The Alley is lined with traditional shops, restaurants, bars and Geisha tea houses. The Alley comes alive at night. Nightlife has been here since the early 700's c.e.
