Judy next to the incense burner in front of the Main Hall of the Senso-ji Temple - Tokyo

John (foreground) is approaching the burner.
Temple is Buddhist.
Directing some of the incense smoke over one's body with one's hands supposedly will cleanse one's body. The gesture also symbolizes healing. Before doing this ritual some Buddhist and Shinto followers first will purchase incense, light and extinguish it and then put it in the burner.
